Leather needs conditioning, not just cleaning
Leather bags and belts dry out over time, especially with regular use. A light leather conditioner every few months keeps the material flexible and prevents the cracking that shows up on neglected pieces after a year or two.
Store bags stuffed with tissue paper or a soft insert to help them hold their shape, and keep them out of direct sunlight, which fades leather unevenly over time.
- Condition leather every 3–4 months, more often in dry climates
- Store bags upright and stuffed, not stacked flat
- Wipe hardware with a dry cloth to prevent tarnish buildup
Small habits that add years to a piece
Rotate which bag or belt you use daily rather than wearing one piece constantly — it gives the leather time to recover its shape and reduces wear at the same stress points.
“Accessories age well when you give them a break. Constant daily wear is what ages leather fastest.”

If a strap or handle starts to show wear, get it addressed early — a small repair done early is almost always cheaper and less noticeable than waiting until it fails.
