Start with the right layer
A cotton print dress works hardest when you treat it as a base layer, not a finished outfit. On cooler days we reach for a denim jacket or a cropped cardigan; in summer it stands on its own with sandals and minimal jewelry.
The print does most of the work, so keep accessories simple. A structured tote and a pair of block heels or white sneakers will take the same dress from a weekday lunch to a weekend market without feeling repetitive.
- Pair with a belt to define the waist for a more polished silhouette
- Swap sandals for ankle boots and tights once the weather turns
- Layer a slip dress underneath for a longer, more relaxed drape
Caring for the print
Cotton prints hold their color best when washed cold and hung to dry. Skip the dryer if you can — it’s the fastest way to dull the pattern and shrink the fit over time.
“A good print dress should still look sharp after twenty washes. That’s the real test of quality.”
Style Team
If you’re not sure which print to start with, go for one with a busy pattern in two or three colors — it hides wrinkles well and pairs with almost any solid-colored layer you already own.
