Pick a base of neutrals
A capsule wardrobe starts with five or six neutral pieces — a good pair of jeans, a white tee, a tailored blazer, and one versatile dress. Everything else you add should be able to pair with at least two of these.
Resist the urge to buy a full outfit at once. Add one piece at a time and wear it with what you already own before deciding if it earns a permanent spot in the rotation.
- Choose fabrics that travel well and don’t need ironing
- Stick to two or three colors that all pair with each other
- Add one statement piece — a bold bag or a bright top — to avoid feeling flat
Knowing when to stop
A capsule wardrobe isn’t about owning as little as possible — it’s about owning only what you actually reach for. Twenty pieces you wear on rotation beat eighty you don’t.
“The goal isn’t a smaller closet. It’s a closet where everything in it actually gets worn.”
Style Team
Once your base is solid, rotate in seasonal pieces a few at a time rather than swapping the whole wardrobe — it keeps the capsule intact and makes it easier to see what’s actually missing.
